What is Recess?
A private app for close friends. Through the week you add small moments to your update, and on Friday morning it goes out to your friends while theirs arrives for you. When you want to actually see each other, you send a Recess.
When do updates go out?
Every Friday morning. If you forget to send yours, Friday sends it for you.
Who can see my updates?
Only people you’ve accepted as friends. There are no public profiles, no follower counts and no strangers in your replies.
Is Recess free?
Yes. Recess+ is optional. It removes ads and adds a few extras.
What phones does it work on?
iPhone, iPad and Android.
Friends and plans
How do I find my friends?
Search by name or @username, share your invite link, or show your code in person from your Profile. Friends of your friends can also appear under People you may know, and you can turn that off in Settings.
Do you upload my contacts?
No. When you invite someone from your contacts, your phone’s own picker opens and you choose one person. Your contacts are never uploaded or stored.
What is a Recess?
A plan with friends: coffee, a walk, a movie, something happening in your city this week. Send one, see who’s in, and add it to your calendar.
How do birthday cards work?
Before a friend’s birthday you can sign their card, and it opens on the day. Missed it? You have three days afterwards to add your name. You can switch birthday celebrations off in Settings.
Privacy and your account
Does Recess know where I am?
Only roughly, and only if you allow it. Recess uses your approximate location to show things happening near you, and you decide whether friends can see your city.
How do I block or report someone?
You can block or report people inside the app, or email founders@recesstoday.com.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile, then Settings, then Delete account. You can also start at go.recesstoday.com/delete-account. It deletes your account and everything you’ve posted.
